The film shows the decisive interview of a climate refugee applying for asylum with a state examiner and an interpreter, in the presence of an interpreter. The interview focuses on the asylum seeker’s life, as he asked to give a meticulous account of the events that forced him into exile. In this strict legal protocol, the protagonist will have to relive the path of his exile in order to prove the veracity of his story. The oral interview is gradually transformed into a re-enactment of the climatic forces experienced during his journey. The protagonist is then subjected to the wind and cold that he claims to have survived. He himself becomes an object of study who can only be convincing by his physical performance and mental strength. In the face of these traumas, repeated and amplified by the simulation, the administrative system will gradually break down.
Born in Lyon in 1992, Quentin L'helgoualc’h obtained the Higher National Diploma of Visual Expression at the Beaux-Arts in Montpellier and then joined the postgraduate course in 2018. During this period, his work began to articulate several mediums, such as sculpture, video, drawing and installation. In his works, he approaches confrontations of scale between the subjects treated and their environments. This research questions the friction between the perception of reality and the need for the imaginary in order to rethink the stories that inspire us today. In his various exhibitions and residencies, his work pursues the dynamic of exploring new spaces. A member of the In Extremis collective for the last five years, he devotes himself to works that are conceived and produced as a group, such as the installation Chopped and Screwed, and the performance PM-10. After a first short film, he directed a documentary involving immersion in virtual spaces, with the complicity of video artists Ekiem Barbier and Guilhem Causse. In 2019 and 2020 he made two videos that combine live action and 3D animation exploring the sensory relationship to digital spaces.
